CABG - Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth and Development

Programme Name: Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth and Development (CABG)
The CABG is a part-time, level 5 Certificate (NZQA approved) which is delivered over 24 weeks.

The programme is facilitated by an experienced business mentor and all resources are provided at NO COST to participants.

Times of classes/workshops can be scheduled to suit your business/work and life schedule.

The CABG is designed for people who are in business or who have completed a business plan. Participants will develop strategies which will enable them to reach the desired future position of their business.

Modules Include: Business Development Analysis, Business Implementation Projects and Business Reports and Presentations.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be 16 years or older at the commencement of the programme, and a NZ resident. They must also attend an information session, already be in business and be committed to the hours required by the programme and complete the enrolment process.

Open to all NZ citizens and permanent residents, and Australian citizens, aged over 16, who are not already enrolled in a government sponsored training programme.

Entry Requirements

This is an advanced business programme. In addition to basic literacy and numeracy skills, you must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Graduate of CSBM
  • Hold a suitable business plan reviewable by us
  • Already operating in business
  • Hold a managerial position, are familiar with business planning and able to implement changes in the business

This course is unlikely to be suitable for those who have not completed any study after finishing school. You will need access to a computer and printer to complete your assessments.

What will I get from this programme?

The Certificate in Applied Small Business Growth and Development (CABG) programme is a very practical, hands on course designed for existing business owners, and based on your own business. You will gain key skills and knowledge to develop and implement strategies / action plans to achieve business development goals and projects for your business. During the programme, you will have the opportunity to access an experienced business mentor to assist you identify, implement and monitor your progress.

What will I learn?

The programme consists of three modules:

Module 1
Business Development Analysis
Tools to analyse your business in relation to the desired future position of the business. Identify internal and external issues, challenges and opportunities for business development. Set goals and develop strategies as well as identify business projects you can implement.
Module 2
Business Implementation Projects
Work on the business projects you have identified in the previous module i.e. Put your business plan into practice.
Module 3
Business Reports and Presentations
Develop your presentation skills and prepare business reports. Analyse a business case study to present. This will include identifying internal and external issues and challenges as well as opportunities and solutions for business development.

How much will the course cost me?

There are no charges for students; there are NO FEES. This is a fully funded government programme offered through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. You will also receive a range of quality resources required to complete the programme, also at no cost.

How and when will I be able to study the course?

The programme is part-time and class based. You will be part of a unique learning environment that is supportive, inclusive and interactive. Classes are held weekly for the duration of the 24 weeks. In addition, you will have access to an experienced business mentor to assist you identify, implement and monitor your progress.


CABG Contact

Length: 24 weeks
Format: Part-time and class-based. Each module will be delivered by a Kaiako (Facilitator), one session per week (3 hours, usually an evening) and 10 hours of scheduled workshop time per module.
